Scam Alert - Rogue Trader

PC Jim McGuiness would like to warn you of a prolific Rogue Trader who may be moving into the Thames Valley area. He is under investigation in Surrey and may now move here as he has previously worked in this area. He is known to employ foreign workers.

He trades under the names of A1 Roofing and also City New Roofs Ltd and is registered with Companies House, although moves are being made to try to remove him.

He has an English accent and may cold call on elderly or vulnerable occupants and flyers may also be posted. Please call the police immediately on 0845 8 505 505 if you believe this man is operating in your neighbourhood.

Please warn any elderly or vulnerable scheme members, friends or family members to be careful when agreeing to have work done by such callers - the best way being to use recommended tradesmen and to get more than one estimate. It is also important not to hand over final payment until work has been completed to your satisfaction.

Thank you.

There have been many reports of a male knocking on doors, pretending to be a local resident or relative of a neighbour, who needs money for fuel, generally to get back to Stanstead Airport to collect a laptop that his dad has taken by mistake.

PC 5996 MARTIN from High Wycombe would like to hear from anyone who has been approached by this male to contact him on 08458 505505. Currently only 20 people have come forward but he is confident that there are many more victims of this, clever, confident con man.

If anyone should knock at your door asking for money, ensure you seek ID and if in doubt close the door and call the police.

The male is described as white, about 6ft tall, slim build, short brown hair (sometimes spiked up at the front), very well presented and well spoken.

Scam Alert - Cash Machines

Police are warning people to take care when drawing cash from ATM machines. At approx 12.30pm on Monday 10 March a man was using a machine outside Barclays Bank in Sycamore Road Amersham when he was distracted by a dark European male suggesting he had dropped some money. Whilst distracted a second offender stole his credit card.

They were later seen boarding a train and thanks to the quick actions of the police, and some excellent witnesses, the train was stopped outside Little Chalfont and three men were arrested.

The following advice has been given when using machines.

  • Be aware of who is around you and insist on your space.
  • Avoid using machines which are not familiar to you
  • Try moving the card slot or key pad.
  • If there is a large amount of movement do not use the machine.
  • Try covering the key pad with one hand whilst entering your PIN number
  • Do not be distracted whilst making your transaction, even if someone is offering your money
  • If in doubt do not use the machine.

If think the machine has been tampered with notify the bank if it is open or call the police immediately on 999.

Thank you.
